The task of protecting biodiversity depends on effective local action. Throughout the North West, Local Biodiversity Action Plans ensure national and local priorities are carefully integrated and are turning wise words and clear priorities into actions that will protect the best and enhance the rest. The 5 LBAPs in the NW are:

Greater Manchester Biodiversity Project 10 metropolitan boroughs that make up the former county of Greater Manchester: Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan.
  Organisation Operating Area
Lancashire`s Biodiversity Partnership County of Lancashire including the areas covered by the unitary authorities of Blackburn with Darwen Borough and Blackpool Borough.

Merseyside Biodiversity Group North Merseyside (Sefton, Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens)
  Organisation Operating Area
The Countdown Programme (Cheshire region Biodiversity Partnership) Cheshire county plus Warrington, Halton and Wirral.
